The 2010 Corton Grand Cru Clos des Marechaudes has a beautiful, almost haunting bouquet with delineated scents of cranberry, small red cherries and wild strawberry that are immediately seductive. The palate is medium-bodied with good fruit concentration on the entry: cranberry, strawberry and a dash of spice – even a sprinkle of cracked black pepper. It does not quite have the length and persistence I am looking for, but that should not detract from what is a superb Corton from the Bichot team. Drink 2015-2028+ Drink 2015 - 2028.

Tasting note: Compared to the 1er this is far less expressive at present even though the fruit is clearly very ripe with an attractively layered nose of black cherry, cassis and menthol-suffused aromas. There is excellent volume and concentration to the broad-shouldered flavors that brim with mouth coating dry extract before concluding in an overtly rustic and austere finish of simply huge length. This is a classic Corton of power, muscle and almost painful intensity but also impeccably good balance. Clos des Maréchaudes is rarely mentioned in the same breath as the best of Corton but this is a seriously impressive wine that is built for the very, very long haul. As such I would strongly advise that you not buy this unless you expressly intend to cellar it accordingly as this is unlikely to drink well young. Drink to 2025+.
