Huon Hooke
Deep, youthful red-purple colour; an initially subdued aroma, ripe, rich and happily non-minty, the palate strangely salty and very savoury, with a very elegant body. It took time to open up, and gradually revealed outstanding berry and violet aromas and flavours of great intensity, precision and elegance. A subtle touch of fruit sweetness, and the tannins are so supple that it's easy to enjoy immediately. I suspect it will be very long-lived, however. (From the oldest cabernet vines in Coonawarra, planted in 1954, so 60 years old in 2014)
