Huon Hooke
Deep, dark, dense glass staining red/purple/black colour. The nose is super-ripe and concentrated, with a slight 'dead fruit' overtone. There's a hint of jammy, cooked fruit, hot year character. Or possibly just picked a bit too late. Dessiccated fruit. It's sweetly porty and jammy, overripe and somewhat stewed. The tannins are dead and dried-out, rasping and unpleasant. There is a definite 'dead fruit' side to this, which is a great pity. It is a dense, concentrated and profound wine which could have been something sensational.
