90 Points James Halliday
Medium red-purple; the moderately intense bouquet is spotlessly clean, with gently savoury cabernet varietal fruit and sweetly spicy oak. The palate has good structure and texture, with savoury berry flavours, fine tannins and good length; the oak is far from overwhelming. Once again, the '98 was the outstanding wine. Drink to 2010.

1999 was a great vintage in McLaren Vale especially for red wines, and the Classic McLaren La Testa Cabernet Sauvignon 1999 is an outstanding example.
This limited release Cabernet has excellent depth of colour and serious fruit intensity of concentrated cherry, plum and blackberry flavours with finely balanced tannins, and a silky smooth mouth feel. Left in French oak barriques for 36 months as an oak trial, it will benefit from being decanted prior to drinking. And the rewards gained with cellaring will add further complexity to an already elegant wine from a great vintage."
