Huon Hooke
Smoky plummy nose; spices and berries too. Palate is softer and fleshier, sweeter than 1992. Nice wine and good for the year. Grainy tannins assert themselves. Now to 8+ years.

Penfolds' 1993 Cabernet/Shiraz Bin 389 might be one of the finest under $20 wine currently available. The wine exhibits an opaque ruby/purple color, as well as a sweet, spicy nose of black fruits, cedar, pepper, and fruitcake-like aromas. Full-bodied, fleshy, rich, long, and supple, with low acidity, this boldly-flavored wine should continue to drink well for a decade. Importer: PWG Vintners, USA, Inc., Monterey, CA; tel. 92 Points James Halliday
Full red-purple; dense, nicely ripened dark berry/dark chocolate fruit aromas with powerful but integrated oak on the bouquet; there is an array of fruit flavours running through dark cherry, mint, dark plum and hints of spice in the mouth, with the hallmark Penfolds tannins and well-handled oak. Drink to 2015.
