Ranked #10 of 17 1997 Shiraz from Barossa Valley
89/100
3.5 Stars
Huon Hooke
RWT is all French oak; all Barossa Valley. Nice wine, nothing special though, and in hindsight, not up to the standards set by later vintages. Firm grip; leanish and not terribly complex. Some sweet fruit buried within the palate. Decent, respectable.

91 Points Robert Parker
Medium-deep garnet-brick in color the 1997 RWT Shiraz has an expressive meaty and gamey nose with smoked bacon, yeast extract and hints of dried mulberries and figs. Medium-bodied, it is fresh, has soft and powdery tannins and finishes long. It has peaked but is still holding up.

94 Points James Halliday
Medium red-purple; the very elegant bouquet has savoury/spicy overtones to the cherry/plum fruit, supported by subtle French oak. The palate is no less elegant, with savoury/chocolate/berry flavours supported by fine tannins and similarly classy oak. Drink to 2017.
