Ranked #8 of 18 2001 Shiraz from Barossa Valley

Huon Hooke
Deep, dark, red/brick colour. Very complex, mellow, attractive, aged bouquet with plum and fruitcake, not so much mint, and a smooth, full-bodied, dense and fleshy palate. It's very mature - it may be a prematurely advanced bottle - but the flavours are excellent. A whisper of sulfide is no problem.

The opaque purple-colored 2001 Shiraz tastes extremely sweet (because of the high glycerin levels as well as fruit extract) with velvety tannin, gorgeously proportioned, full-bodied flavors, and muscle, intensity, and elegance. Additionally, this super Shiraz is fairly priced. It should drink well for 10-15 years.

Blackberry, earth, oak and tannins all coalesce; not over the top in any way; classic style. Drink to 2021.
