Ranked #27 of 44 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz from Barossa Valley
85/100
3 Stars
Huon Hooke
Medium dark red purple. Good colour. Rich nose; some oakiness and density. Faintly herbal. Smoky, charred-oak aromas tend to dominate. Rather harsh astringency and rasping tannins. Not a feel-good style: too oaky and harsh. Astringent to the point of bitter. Young and brooding and needs a lot of time; less is more as far as oak goes.

Blended of 54% Cabernet Sauvignon and 46% Shiraz, the 2004 The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz gives a deep garnet-purple color and pronounced notes of kirsch, creme de cassis, dried plums, Mediterranean herbs and a whiff of capsicum. Full-bodied and with ample flesh, it’s well structured with firm fine tannins and crisp acid, going long and earthy in the finish. Drinking now, it should cellar to 2017+.
