Huon Hooke
Medium deep red, some purple. Earthy, muddy aromas with savoury developed red fruits, palate is quite firm and tannic, taut and structural, but elegant and balanced with good line. Mouthfilling and full of fruit and tannins, good fleshiness and length, satisfying. Impressive, deep wine, worth cellaring.

Dense crimson-purple; an equally dense, chewy, full-bodied palate with blackberry, dark chocolate and mocha all intermingling; the tannins, while substantial, are ripe. Drink to 2016.

"Tasted this 12 months ago as part of the Big Red Wine Book tastings. It rated 96 points in the book. On re-tasting it now it doesn’t seem as impressive. It’s an elegant version of Chapel Hill cabernet, and a good wine, but …
The flavours are excellent. Chocolate, blackberry, spice and earth. A lovely mix of sweetness, ripeness, savouriness and oak. Length and tannin structure are on the money too. In fact, it’s the tannin structure that really elevates the wine above its station. My only query is whether it quite has the stuffing through the mid-palate - there’s a bit of cabernet’s famous dip. Otherwise it’s an excellent red, for drinking now or later."
