Ranked #14 of 36 2010 Shiraz from Clare Valley

Huon Hooke
Deep, dark red colour with a purple rim. Dense herbal and mint aromas, bright and primary - although some toasty, smoky oak is also apparent. Very Clare-like. Full-bodied and tannic, with an oaky taste to the tannins. Bright, somewhat shrill primary preserved plum aromas and flavours. Firm tannin structure around a core of sweetly ripe fruit. Gutsy and needs time. Not a wine of great elegance, but certainly has impact. This needs several years' cellaring.

Deep garnet-purple color and scented of crushed blackberries, black cherries and plums with underlying smoked meat, earth and aniseed hints, the medium to full-bodied 2010 Limited Release Copper Trail Shiraz offers mouth-filling black fruit and savory, earthy flavors supported by a good backbone of medium to firm chewy tannins and lively acid before finishing long. Drink it now to 2018+.

Deep purple-crimson; part of the wine was kept on skins in small open-fermenters, part finished its fermentation in barrel. It is a full-bodied celebration of the black fruits that Clare Valley shiraz can display, complexed by licorice and toasty oak, lengthened by positive tannins. Drink to 2020.
