Ranked #23 of 49 2009 Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz from Barossa Valley
88/100
3.5 Stars
Huon Hooke
Deep red with a strong and bright purple rim; good colour for its age. The bouquet is borderline jammy, with sweet mint, aniseed, licorice and raspberry jam overtones. An old-fashioned Barossa red, with quite gripping tannins, touches of mint and licorice, and some rather grippy tannins on the aftertaste.

The medium to deep garnet colored 2009 The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon Shiraz unfurls evolving aromas of warm blackberries, dried mulberries and stewed plum alongside underlying menthol, potpourri, cinnamon stick, and nutmeg scents. Medium to full-bodied, it harmoniously supports a great core of maturing fruit with firm, finely grained tannins and a vibrant acid line through a finish with great length. Drink it now to 2022+.

The Signature is on the back, this year it is Clive Weston, for long employed by Negociants NZ. The choice of 20 months' maceration in Yalumba-coopered French, Hungarian and American oak has not impacted as much as anticipated on the medium to full-bodied palate with its rich blackcurrant and plum fruit, and ripe tannins. Drink to 2019.
