Deep red/purple colour. Nutty new oak hints on the spicy aroma, some nutmeg notes and blueberry and cassis cabernet. Quite tight and firm, medium to full-bodied, tight and authoritative. Very good wine and well worth cellaring. There is a tinge of bitterness from the cabernet tannins.

90 Points Robert Parker

A blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon and 43% Shiraz, the deep garnet-purple colored 2012 Bin 8 Cabernet Shiraz is a little closed on the nose, with pure blackcurrant and blackberry notes coming through along with some baking spices in the background. Medium-bodied with classic flavors, it is quite expressive in the mouth, with low to medium levels of grainy tannins carrying it through the long finish.19,500 cases were imported to the US. Drink it now to 2020.

An attempt to fill the gap as the price of Bin 389 inflates, though a price rise this year takes Bin 8 into decisively premium territory. It's bright, lively and finely structured, defined by tangy, leafy cabernet fruit and fragrant violet perfume. Whether it has the back-palate weight or persistence to justify the price remains an open question. Drink to 2022.

Bin 8 endeavours to fill the gap as the price of 389 inflates, though it''s not half the wine. A fragrant leaf, redcurrant and cedar bouquet opens into violet perfume in time. The palate is bright, lively, firm and finely structured, with tangy, leafy cabernet fruit taking the lead amidst grippy tannins and sour acidity, ultimately finishing little thin and simple, certainly not justifying a price rise from $38 to $45. A blend of 57% cabernet and 43% shiraz from the Barossa Valley, Wrattonbully, McLaren Vale, Padthaway and Langhorne Creek. Matured for 12 months in French (13% new) and American oak. Cork sealed. Available 6 March 2014. Drink 2017 - 2022.
