Huon Hooke
Deep red-purple colour. Melted black chocolate and mocha aromas dominate. A whiff of cocoa powder. The palate is humungous. It's a great big clumsy, unwieldy thing, with a punch in the teeth of gripping tannin, accentuated by alcohol hotness. The tannins are very assertive and chewy. It's undoubtedly concentrated, though. I can't enjoy this today, and while it's surely meant to be cellared, I have trouble imagining age will turn the caterpillar into a butterfly. It's not really regional either.
