Huon Hooke
Deep, dense red colour with a trace of purple. The bouquet is richly ripe with violets, dark berries and a lacing of iodine or nori-like regional character. There's also a leather hint from new oak and a very ripe, almost jammy note after extended airing. It's intense, emphatic and firm on the palate. The tannins are very ample but of good quality. They still finish a trifle sappy, however. This is remarkably young for its age and will reward cellaring for many years. (Made from a single Wilyabrup vineyard; 6 weeks on skins; aged 14 months in new oak. 250 dozen made)

98 Points James Halliday
Cabernet reaching for the stratosphere and placing its fingertips fairly in the vicinity. This takes the flesh and bone of Devil's Lair Cabernet Sauvignon and adds muscle, of the rippling type. Blackcurrant, black olive, truffle, sweetly spiced oak, peppercorn and brighter, almost pretty, redcurrant notes. There's a dusting of chocolate too; the flavours here flex and contract, relax and unveil, in waves. Gravelly tannin maintains a firm rule. Persistence: it looks tomorrow in the eye. Drink to 2040.
