Huon Hooke
Deep brick-red colour without purple tints: it looks a little forward-developed. The bouquet is very vegetal and stalky and seems overripe. There's a suggestion of 'dead fruit'. It's extremely foresty. The palate is very drying and savoury, a little hollow and dried-out, with a lack of freshness and primary fruit. It's obviously a high stalk content (whole-bunch fermentation) style, but it's lost something as a result. It's lost more than it's gained. (167-dozen. Second release of new close-planted 10,000 vines per hectare vineyard)
