Huon Hooke
Light to mid-straw-yellow colour with a brassy tint. The bouquet is toasty and mellow, complex and showing some positive development. The palate is also rich and soft and mellow, with more maturity than expected, and a very dry savouriness that lingers. Lip-smacking crisp dryness. A good food wine.

chardonnay clearly in the lead, speaking in articulate notes of lemon and pear, with the complexity of pinot’s red apple, and mature cellar notes of honey, cinnamon and toasted brioche. A gentle, tangy acid line keeps things lively. The dosage of 10g/ L could be lighter, leaving a sweet, candied suggestion to the finish. A crowd-pleasing blend, built on quality fruit. One bottle tasted was tired and developed, with bruised apple notes. The 2008 base vintage heightens its red berry presence, acid focus and chalk mineral mouthfeel.
