Huon Hooke
Deep red with a good tint of purple, not a typical nebb colour at all. The nose explains it: its very oaky. The colour is oak-fixed. There are strong coconut and leather aromas, with a suggestion of oxidation or 'dead fruit'. The palate is very dry, with masses of powdery tannins as well as lively acidity. This needs a few years in the cellar, even then it will never be very nebbiolo-like.

This is full-bodied, layered with flavour and rich, ripe fruit with a bouquet of black and red licorice, brambleberry and rosehips. Lacks charm though, as the cedary-menthol oak dominates and dries out the finish. Drink to 2021.
