Ranked #10 of 35 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon from McLaren Vale

Huon Hooke
Deep, dense red colour with purple tints. The bouquet is strong on sawn timber and coconutty oak nuances. The wine is very tannic and grippy, the tannins having an oaky taste. It's quite tough and hard, and difficult to enjoy at this stage. A massive wine that needs age - and food rich in protein. Cellar it!

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 The Coppermine Road Cabernet Sauvignon has a blackcurrant and dried herbs-scented nose with hints of fertile soil, tree bark and beef drippings. Medium to full-bodied with a chewy, slightly astringent structure and lively line, it is just a tad on the chewy and herbal side with some bitterness in the end.

91 Points James Halliday
Matured in French oak (7% new) for 18 months. Very good colour; a full-bodied cabernet with tannins filling the saddlebags on both sides of the palate; slightly adrift from the supple d'Arenberg style, but may come back into better balance. Drink to 2028.
