Huon Hooke
(Coonawarra) Glass-staining, youthful, deep, red/purple colour. The bouquet is profound and complex, layered and fully ripe, with no herbal touches. Very ripe blackberry aromas instead: oak is skilfully integrated. The wine is tremendously concentrated, with massive structure, density and aging potential. It needs time. (Unusually, a single-region wine, from two Coonawarra vineyards)

The bouquet provides a perfect idea of what is abut to follow on the full-bodied palate: towering blackcurrant fruit with bay leaf, black olive and earth all dripping from the fruit where they meet implacable tannins and a poultice of French oak. Drink to 2049.
