Huon Hooke
At 110 years old, and presumaby 10 years since this miniature was bottled off, it has held very well. The bouquet is not 100% fresh any more, and it's not the most impressive 100 year-old I've tasted, but it is still an amazing and great wine. The dense, treacle-like, blackish green/yellow coloured liquid sticks relentlessly to the glass. It has a tremendously dense, explosive bouquet of coffee, mocha, prune juice, cough medicine, and intoxicating fumes of alcohol and volatile acidity. The taste is tremendously powerful and explosive, filling the mouth with flavour that lingers for minutes after the swallow. It soothes the throat like a balsam. The volatility is very much a part of the wine. A great old wine that has more in common with very old balsamic vinegar than anything else.
