Ranked #13 of 26 2014 Pinot Noir from Piccadilly Valley

Huon Hooke
Medium to deep purple/red: a very youthful, vivid colour. The bouquet has chaffy, blueberry and violet elements and the palate is rather tangy - it's high in acid, unbalanced when tasted by itself. It needs food to soak up that acid. Otherwise, it has many good points.

95 Points James Halliday
Estate-grown in the Piccadilly Valley (vines planted '82), hand-picked, with two ferments, one conventional, the other whole bunch and foot-stomped, pressed to French oak (60% new) for 12 months maturation. Full crimson-purple; a powerful pinot showing the complexity Jeffrey Grosset was aiming to achieve; the structure ex whole bunches is filled out by a potpourri of black cherry and plum fruit, the concentration of the small berry/small bunch vintage very evident, carrying the French oak with ease. Drink to 2025.
