Very deep, brooding purple/red colour. The aromas are distinctly cabernet-like, although the herbal side of its nature is subtly displayed. Lovely fresh cassis, blueberry and violet nuances. The palate is tautly tensioned and firm in its grasp, very full-bodied and—by itself—tongue-crunchingly tannic. More herbal than the straight malbec of this vintage. A statuesque red that demands cellaring and promises to pay a handsome dividend.

With no straight cabernet this vintage, this ends up as 70/30% cabernet/malbec. While shiraz and malbec are good friends, cabernet and malbec are lovers. This is the wine that smells of Wendouree: the bush, the winery and the vineyards resplendent with gnarly centenarian and ‘younger' vines. Plush, ripe fruit, all currant and blackberry accented, perfumed with aniseed, wild herbs and dark chocolate studded with mint. Lovely tannins and time on its side. If you can wait. If you can get some. Drink to 2039.
