Ranked #1 of 26 2019 Shiraz from Clare Valley

Huon Hooke
Deep, dense purple/red colour. Brown spices dominate the nose, which has cinnamon bark, clove and cardamom notes. Deeply-buried black fruits and no eucalyptus! The wine is full-bodied and firmly structured with assertive but finely-shaped tannins that run the full length of the palate and resolve beautifully on the finish and aftertaste. Powerful, intense wine, long and harmonious. A ripping shiraz, great drinking already but assured of a long future. A great shiraz and one of the best I've ever seen under this label.

This has a density, richness and ripeness, yet a beauty, too. Wafts of spice and Aussie bush aromas, with baking spices slipping through plums and blackberries. There's a buoyancy throughout, and bright fruit across the palate; the oak steadfast as a support and seasoning. The palate is perfectly shaped, fuller bodied, with expansive, textural tannins and acidity working in unison. Drink to 2039.
