Huon Hooke
Medium to full red colour with a tint of purple. The bouquet is herbal, spicy, gently peppery, with overtones of smoky charcuterie, while the palate is medium to full-bodied and sinewy, the tannins having a grippy firmness. It's slightly sappy and doesn't have the fruit-sweet core and charm of most Head reds. Very good, though. (All from the 420 metres altitude Stonegarden vineyard at Springton, planted in the 1850s. 60/40 grenache/mataro. 1000 bottles produced.)
