Huon Hooke
Very deep red with a good tinge of purple, and a sweetly superripe bouquet that seems jammy and herbal at the same moment. Strident peppercorn and clove aromas; walnutty (oak?) too. The palate is concentrated but also tight and somewhat tough, finishing with lingering grip. Cellaring recommended, but it's hard to see where this is going. Decant well if serving young. ( A blend of shiraz and mourvèdre from two vineyards planted in 1853, the mourvèdre from Old Garden, the syrah from Monopole)
