86 Points James Halliday
Dense red-purple; very ripe blackberry and cassis fruit is the primary driver of the bouquet, with oak a secondary but nonetheless obvious influence. As ever, the palate has huge extract and tannins to frame the fruit; a Henry VIII style, probably better appreciated with rich meat. Drink to 2013.

"The 1998 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is brilliant. Opaque black/purple-colored with an explosive nose of licorice, blackberry, cassis, tar, and new oak, this huge, ripe wine (it was aged in 100% new French oak) is layered, thick, smoky, concentrated, and a true blockbuster from this superb vintage. One thousand five-hundred cases were produced. Anticipated maturity: 2003-2018."
