Exhibiting mint/eucalyptus is the compressed, medium-bodied 1997 Shiraz Mt. Edelstone. This well-made, pure effort possesses red and black fruits, surprising acidity, and a lighter style than I would have expected from such a famous winery as well as renowned wine. Drink it over the next 5-8 years.

Medium red-purple; the bouquet is clean but rather light and slightly leafy, tending simple. The palate is rather better - light but quite well balanced, with red fruits and some touches of sweet vanilla oak. Uncharacteristic tasting notes, perhaps, for a wine going through a particularly difficult phase of its development. Drink to 2012.
