90 Points Robert Parker
A brilliant offering from the Cotes du Luberon is the 2003 Domaine de la Bastide de Rhodares, a blend of equal parts 10-year old Syrah and 50-year old Grenache that provides a potent punch of alcohol (15%). Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a sweet kiss of kirsch and blackberries along with tar and licorice notes. Boasting superb purity, a full-bodied texture, low acidity, and plenty of glycerin, opulence, and length, it is meant for shameless hedonists seeking pleasure in addition to value. It is difficult to judge how long it will age. All the stuffing is present for 5-10 years of drinkability, but I would suggest consuming it earlier rather than later. Drink 2004 - 2014.
