Huon Hooke
Deep, dark red/brick colour, quite developed hue but deep. Very chocolaty aroma, a trifle one-dimensional at first, and then started to reveal more nuances with airing. A big, full-bodied and rather chunky palate, which is a bit straightforward in character. The tannins are chewy and thick. Not the most elegant of wines, but very full of flavour.

Developed colour; medium-bodied blackcurrant, mocha and cedar aromas and flavours; good control of extract, the oak balanced. Drink to 2013.
James Halliday. June, 2021
Produced from only the top 25% of available cabernet grapes, this wine has a long-established reputation for displaying excellent Coonawarra cabernet varietal definition and exceptionally high wine quality. When young, the wine is redolent of cassis and other red berry fruits with a strong background of charry oak. Ground coffee, dark chocolate and mint descriptors are often used.
With bottle age, cedar, cigar box and new leather characters enrich the developed bouquet. Under good cellaring conditions this wine will age gracefully for many years.
