Good nose, if oak-driven, with clean, ripe, complex character. Palate is tight and firm with good cabernet structure and length. Balanced and stylish. Like this: could drink it. Balanced and satisfying. Long, linear, not over the top in any way.

Slightly disappointing compared to some of its siblings, the 2004 Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 407 is a multi-regional blend of 100% Cabernet that spent time in both new and old French oak. While very good, it did not sing as loudly as some of Penfolds’ other efforts. It reveals notes of spice, dried herbs, cedar, damp earth, black cherries, and currants. Medium-bodied with a lovely attack and mid-palate, but jagged tannin in the finish, it should drink well for 5-10 years. Source: Robert Parker (Wine Advocate) October, 2006 by Robert Parker
