Ranked #7 of 47 2009 Shiraz from Pokolbin

Huon Hooke
Deep red colour, with a slight purple rim. Smoky char-oak and regional Hunter fruit character together with a touch of funk and savoury, foresty, earthy low-register notes. Certainly not a fruit-bomb. Full-bodied and savoury again in mouth, with ample fine-grained powdery tannins that run throughout the mouth, giving structure and a lovely clean, firm, lip-smacking finish that carries on and on. Splendid stuff, and worth cellaring long-term. A ripper.

94 Points Robert Parker
Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2009 Mount Pleasant Maurice O’Shea Shiraz offers slightly restrained notes of ripe plums, black cherries and mulberries with hints of loam, tree bark, black pepper and game. Medium-bodied, taut and muscular at this youthful stage, it has a firm level of grainy tannins and good backbone of lively acid, finishing long with some oak poking through. Consider drinking it 2013 to 2023+.
