Ranked #21 of 50 2011 Shiraz from Barossa Valley

Huon Hooke
Deep red/purple; excellent colour. Vanilla, plum and chocolate aromas, becoming increasingly peppery in the glass. Intense and slightly edgy in texture: ripe and sweetly-fruited, with good intensity and youth, the tannins just a tiny bit firm and pointed. But the wine is a triumph for the year.

Deep colour; dark and brooding on the bouquet, with ripe aromas of spiced plums, fruitcake, blackberry and a lifted not of sea spray; the palate is tightly wound and full of fresh fruits, dense tannins and a lick of licorice lingering on the long finish. Drink to 2020.

The Turkey has landed and it’s putting on quite a spectacle! Watermelon, pomegranate and strawberry, with a touch of textural acidity and a well-gauged dose of sweetness. Most 2011s need another six months to calm down. Not this one, so catch this bird right away! $18 at WineStar and Dan Murphy’s. Drink 2011 - 2011.
