Huon Hooke
Deepish red/purple colour. Stalky, herbal aromas dominate, undoubtedly some stems in the ferment, but it seems a trifle green and lacking full stalk phenolic ripeness. Touch of pepper and graphite. Tannins are assertive and smooth, and it has fleshiness and balance in the mouth. This is a good wine and much better when you don't sniff it first! I suspect the bouquet will improve in time, as stemmy wines often do. (40% whole bunches)
