If you doubt that Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz make ideal stable-mates, this wine might change your mind. It’s a dense, classy red with strong dark berry, plum, spice and oak flavours. Firm, ripe tannins are smothered by sweet fruit. Classy wine that’s a pleasure to taste.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2010 Yalumba The Signature (Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz) has a slightly muted nose giving notes of macerated plums, blackberry preserves and menthol with suggestions of cloves, anise and nutmeg. There’s some complementary oak apparent on the full-bodied, generously-fruited palate that has a solid structure of medium to firm grainy tannins and crisp acid. It finishes with a good length. Approachable now, it should drink best 2014 to 2024+.

A 52/48% blend, matured in a combination of French, Hungarian and American oak, 35% new. The strengths of the vintage have been clearly transcribed. Medium-bodied but powerful. Blackcurrant, dried tobacco, sawdusty oak and mint. Freshness has been maintained. Tannin, oak, fruit and acid work as one. Beautiful example of a traditional Australian style. Drink to 2028.
