Huon Hooke
Deep red colour with a tinge of purple; the bouquet slightly sweaty and feral (from reduction) without much bright primary fruit showing. Becomes more chocolaty as it rests in the glass, with a particular sooty regional overtone. The wine is full-bodied and dense, rich and fleshy, with lots of extract and balanced acidity, its tannins supple and sensuous. It achieves its aim of being an old-fashioned style. Very good, too. (Single vineyard, old vines, no irrigation, earlier picked, large vat matured)
