Huon Hooke
Medium to full red/purple, just a slightly weak-edged colour. Low-key aromas are vegetal dominant; leaves, tobacco and raspberry, and the palate is a little diluted and falls away to a somewhat feeble finish. Quite ordinary really; not much varietal style nor depth of fruit, nor savoury complexity nor 'good wine' characters on the other hand. Cannot see a future for it.

Estate-grown cabernet franc (62%), merlot (17%), malbec (16%) and cabernet sauvignon (5%). The bright crimson colour is an inviting start to a wine with a range of small red and black fruits, plus notes of tobacco, spice and earth, oak playing a restricted role; the tannins support is particularly good, giving the wine distinction. Drink to 2019.
