Ranked #29 of 42 2018 Shiraz from Eden Valley

Huon Hooke
Deepish purple/red colour, with a reserved, floral, spice and pepper bouquet, the palate licoricey, savoury and ripe, but elegant and far from a blockbuster. There are traces of earthy graphite, the tannins are soft but ample and the finish is rounded and a little clipped. Attractive balance and texture. This is a relativey pared-back style of Barossa shiraz. It's very pleasant, but pricey. (Trial Hill is a high-altitude site near Pewsey Vale)

97 Points James Halliday
From 1.6ha of estate vines in Pewsey Vale. Matured 26 months in 8 French oak barriques. Ronald Brown is a wizard in the vineyard. Such cool-climate mood and powder-fine elegance are rarely found even at this altitude of the Barossa. White pepper and violets dance over a crunchy palate of delectable black cherry and satsuma plum fruit. Tannin, acidity and fruit harmonise effortlessly, testimony to happy vines in perfect balance and peace. Drink to 2043.
