Domaine Philippe Chavy Puligny-Montrachet "Les Corvees des Vignes" 2010
LOVELY WINE FROM A TOP VINTAGE

This wine is made by blending together before fermentation the grapes from two tiny plots of vines totaling .64 hectares planted in the 1950’s high up on the Meursault border, adjacent to Meursault “Charmes” and Puligny-Montrachet “Referets”. This is a substantial yet fine Puligny, with a sleek palate and the freshness and balance which is a hallmark of better wines from this village. 2010 is a great vintage, so don't be fooled by the attractiveness now of this wine. It will go on for 10 years or more, depending on when you choose to drink it.

Domaine Philippe Chavy Bourgogne Chardonnay 2009
Terrific value from a top vintage in Burgundy

The Chavy family, based in the village of Meursault, have owned vineyards in both their home village and in Puligny-Montrachet for several generations. I understand this wine is a cellar blend from both of these villages, but on the palate it says Puligny more than Meursault. I have seen this wine a number of times. In 2010 it was a bit oaky but by 2012 as the oak had better integrated the wine and it was "available to drink". It has continued to develop into a very harmonious fully-bodied (2009 was a very ripe vintage) white Burgundy and is now perfectly into its drinking cycle, which will continue for a few years yet. Fantastic with white meats. I give it a big score for such a lowly appellation, but it was a great vintage which, so the saying goes "raises all boats".
