Fox Creek’s Reserve Shiraz 2001 was voted Australia’s finest, beating the celebrated Penfold’s Grange 1998, at an Executive Wine Seminars (EWS) blind tasting in New York in January 2004, where Robert Parker Jr gave the wine a 97 rating !
Each January, the EWS have a blind tasting of the most coveted Australian shiraz releases within the past year to determine which is the best of the best.
And the 2004 results declared that Fox Creek’s 2001 Reserve Shiraz “blew them away”.
It was voted superior over the other wines that included d'Arenberg Dead Arm 2000 from McLaren Vale, Two Hands Lilly’s Garden 2001 and most notably Australia’s icon wine from the exceptional 1998 vintage, Penfolds Grange.
The results and story line of the EWS tasting can be found on the Robert Parker website.
Drinks well now, great perfume nose, should cellar well thru' 2018. Definitely one for special occasions.
