84 Points James Halliday
Dark red-purple; bramble, prune, plum and earth aromas lead into a palate which is almost impossible to describe, the sweetness coming from alcohol and (it would seem) a touch of unfermented sugar, which makes one wonder just what the baume level of the grapes were when they were finally picked. This is a port by any other name, even though it is not fortified. Drink to 2014.

Food match: Duck in dried figs and port. This proved a great match! A very rich meal but the wine beautifully balanced the rich sweetness of the food. Memorable.
The wine was medium-deep in colour, still holding a youthful red hue (the 99s are ageing very slowly). Rich, sweet black plums, asphalt and herbs/spice on the nose. A strong mouthful of flavour - full bodied, with surprisingly good balance!! Yes the wine has sufficient depth of flavour to carry the alcohol without a problem. The finish is not hot and shows impressive length. Exciting.
Drink now to 2015.
